Ebola and other infectious threats

Baron Peter Piot who helped discover the Ebola virus in 1976 gave customers an insight into his research into Ebola and AIDS at an evening talk on Thursday 10th December.

Professor Piot is Director of the London School for Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and is the Chair of the MRC global Health Group.  Professor Piot discussed the recent Ebola outbreak, what will come next in terms of infectious diseases epidemics, how much of a threat they are for the UK, and how prepared we are.  He spoke about how he has challenged world leaders to view AIDs and Ebola in the context of social economic development as well as security.

Baron Peter Piot is the author of 16 books, including his memoir ‘No Time to Lose’.
